Saturday, June 6 is a day that proved Airtel Uganda remains loyal to the kingdom of Buganda after the event hoped to be big, turned into a one-clan meeting, with the turnout had nothing to do with filling Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium as the venue proved to be too big for the event.

Witnessed by the Buganda Government Prime Minister, the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Abataka for all clans, the event that had multiple activities climaxed with Mamba Kakoboza winning the first ever Bika Football Shield by defeating Nkima 4-3 on penalties after goalless normal play time.

Speaking at the climax of the event, the Katikkiro of Buganda noted, “The BIKA Tournament is a vessel of our heritage, unity, and discipline. I congratulate Mmamba Kakoboza Clan on their victory and applaud all the participating clans for keeping our traditions alive. I urge the youth to take part in sports and steer clear of negative habits such as drug abuse and idleness. They must be intentional about building their future. Together with Airtel Uganda, we celebrate not just a winning team, but a winning culture.”
Following the awarding ceremony, David Birungi, the Public Relations officer and Corporate Communications, who represented the major partner, noted,”I congratulate Mamba Kakoboza for winning this for the first time, there is who won something after just 20 years and the way the cerebrated, but this is real special for the competition that started in 1950s a team to win it for the first time.”

Again, we congratulate the people of Buganda for having these activities running successfully. As Airtel Uganda, we are humbly grateful to the Kabaka of Buganda for continuously giving us an opportunity to continue partnering with Brands from Buganda, and Bika remains among those we are committed to continue with,” he added.
The 2026 Bika football championship started on May 2 and climaxed on June 6 after a period of over a month of action, including Football, Netball, Luganda Scrabble, Chess, mini football games, and others, which were all crowned at Wankulukuku on June 6.
In football individual awards, Mmamba Kakoboza’s Nicholas Kabonge was named the tournament’s best player, Mbogo’s Nelson Ssenkatuka won the top score chart, while Salaiman Kibalama of Nkima was the best Goalkeeper.
In Netball, Nte prevailed to stop dominance to win the shield after beating Mmamba Namakaka 49-48 in the final played at Muteesa II Stadium as well. In the Semifinals, they stopped Nyonyi Nyange, who was defending for a third straight, and eventually defeated another dominant team in the final.
