Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo scooped gold in the 10,000m race to push further the country’s dominance in the category in the Commonwealth Games.

In Birmingham on Tuesday night, Kiplimo clocked 27:09.19 to stamp Uganda’s supremacy. The Pearl of Africa has not missed gold since 2006.

In 2006, Boniface Kiprop won it, followed by Moses Kipsiro in 2010 and 2014 before Joshua Cheptegei four years back.

Kiplimo’ s dominance on the night also brought about a new record, and he’s now the fastest athlete in the category in the Games. He beat Cheptegei’s 27:19.62 record set at the Gold-Coast in 2018.

In the absence of Cheptegei, who sat out these particular games due to illness and fatigue, the 21 year old had to deal with a trio of Kenyans.

Kiplimo fended off opposition from Daniel Simiu and Kibiwott Kandie who settled for silver and bronze respectively.

Uganda has now won two medals, both gold, at the ongoing Games. The first was scooped by Victor Kiplangat who won the 42 Kilometers marathon.
