Day 1 of the 2025 USSSA Badminton Championships in Mbale opened with fireworks, as a wave of dominant performances swept through the courts in both the boys’ and girls’ team events.
It was a day of sweeps and emphatic wins out of more than 20 matches played across boys’ and girls’ team events, the majority ended in 3-0 sweeps, a testament to the elite preparation and gulf in quality shown by the tournament’s early frontrunners.
From the first shuttle drop, it was clear, the competition had arrived sharp, swift and serious at Mbale SS on Friday May 6th
Kibuli Secondary School wasted no time stamping their authority on Group A of the boys’ category, brushing aside Busoga College Mwiri with a clinical 3-0 victory.
Known for their precision and tactical depth, Kibuli’s performance set the tone for what would become a day of clean sweeps and shutouts across the groups.
In Group B, Seroma Christian High School asserted their dominance in the boys’ division, sweeping Kinaawa High School – Mugongo and Lubiri SS with back-to-back 3-0 victories.
Their depth in talent and unrelenting pressure left no room for error from their opponents. In another Group B match, Kakungulu Memorial delivered a crisp 3-0 win over Mengo Senior School, reinforcing their reputation as perennial contenders.
Group C saw St Micheal take down St Henry College, Kitovu in yet another 3-0 masterclass, while Kinaawa H/S – Kawempe swept Ntare School with similar authority.
These results hinted at retaining the old normal in the boys’ category, where up-and-coming programs seem poised to challenge established giants but short in quality.
Group D featured St Mary’s College- Kisubi ’s impressive 3-0 wins against both Mbarara High School and Viva College School while Namilyango College too came out big in the same group defeating Sacred Heart SS – Mushanga.
The girls’ division was no less intense as Nabisunsa Girls’ School cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Sheema Girls SS in Group A, followed closely by Mbogo High’s statement performance, a 3-0 sweep against Lubiri Secondary School.
In Group B, Rubaga Girls’ School showed their mettle with a commanding 3-0 win over Mariam High School while in Group D, Trinity College Nabbingo remained flawless with two 3-0 win over Viva College School and Sacred Heart SS – Mushanga
