Makerere College School (MACOS) stamped their authority on the USRA Central Schools Boys Rugby 7s series after winning the third leg at Kyambogo College in commanding fashion.
The Makerere based side was in devastating form throughout the tournament, posting some of the biggest score lines of the day on their way to the title. They hammered St. Julian 64-0 in the pool stages before brushing aside Kabojja 50-7 in the quarterfinals.
MACOS began their campaign with a 14-0 victory over Vienna and later defeated Kololo High 24-5 to complete an unbeaten run into the knockout rounds.
One of the tournament’s biggest surprises came in the final round of pool matches when Luigi held London College to a thrilling 19-19 draw. Luigi’s impressive run, however, ended in the quarterfinals after a narrow 7-5 defeat to SPENA.
In the semifinals, London College overcame SPENA 12-0 to set up a final against MACOS, who had comfortably seen off Kololo High 24-0.
The title decider lived up to expectations, but it was MACOS who finished stronger, beating London College 19-7 to lift the third leg trophy.
The triumph pushed MACOS to the top of the overall series standings with 63 points, three ahead of London College on 60 heading into next weekend’s finale. SPENA are third on 47 points, Kololo High fourth on 45, while Luigi sit fifth with 38 points.
With one leg left to play, MACOS have put themselves in pole position to claim the overall series crown.
