Current national rally championship leader Ponsiano Lwakataka will have to wait for next year to claim his first Fort Portal City Tourism Rally win.

The team Mafu Mafu driver was forced out on the rally on day one after his machine lost power and couldn’t move.

“Members, we are out of the rally due to an engine failure. The car lost power and when we checked, it was the engine. Too bad!” Lwakataka noted.

On a brighter note, his closest competitor in the NRC title Jas Mangat 122 points less is not in Fort Portal.

Away from the low moments of the day, Duncan Mubiru driving a Proto will enter day two with a 32.7 seconds lead.

Behind him is Mike Mukula Jr in a Subaru and Ronald Ssebuguzi completes the podium thanks to his new machine, also a Proto.
