The FUFA Women’s Super League returns in full force this Thursday, April 25th, with three exciting matchups on matchday 16.
League leaders Kawempe Muslim Ladies aim to widen the gap at the top as they travel to take on a resurgent Wakiso Hill WFC side in Kitende.
Currently boasting a comfortable 34 points, Kawempe has a golden opportunity to extend their lead at the top to 10 points with a win. However, Wakiso Hill, revitalized under coach Rogers Nkugwa since his second-round appointment, presents a significant challenge.
While Kawempe dominated the first encounter with a convincing 5-0 victory, Wakiso Hill is determined to avoid relegation and will be fighting hard for a crucial home win that could propel them two spots up the table.
Kawempe will be without key players Shakirah Nyinagirwa (out with a knee injury) and Yudaya Nakayenze (doubtful). Wakiso Hill, on the other hand, receives a boost with the return of youngster Patricia Nayiga from suspension, offering Coach Nkugwa a full squad to choose from.
Early Kickoffs Set the Stage
The day’s action kicks off at 10AM with two intriguing matches. UCU Lady Cardinals host Uganda Martyrs WFC in Mukono, with both teams desperate for points. UCU Lady Cardinals, currently sitting precariously just above the relegation zone, needs a win to establish a safe buffer.
The historical record between these two teams favors Uganda Martyrs. Last season, they secured a dominant double victory over UCU Lady Cardinals, including a 2-0 away win.
However, UCU Lady Cardinals will be drawing motivation from the 1-1 draw they managed in the first leg encounter this season. Kevin Nakacwa scored to rescue Uganda Martyrs after Sandra Kisakye had put the visitors in the lead.
Uganda Martyrs will be without key defenders Shakirah Nagudi and Stella Namisango due to unspecified reasons, while Viola Namuddu sits out due to yellow card accumulation. UCU Lady Cardinals, on the other hand, has a full squad at their disposal.
Relegation Battle Heats Up in Kawanda
At the bottom of the table, Asubo Ladies FC faces a must-win situation as they host Rines SS WFC in Kawanda. A loss for Asubo Ladies, currently sitting with a mere 10 points, would mathematically confirm their relegation.
Rines SS WFC, who narrowly edged Asubo 2-1 in the first leg, will be looking to capitalize on their opponent’s desperation and secure valuable points.
Meanwhile, the matchday 16 will be completed over the weekend with two games as Kampala Queens host Lady Doves while She Maroons will be visiting She Makerere FC.
