Gulu High School bounced back from their morning loss to Group B leaders with a resounding 2-wicket victory against Masaka SS in a pulsating game at the Main Street Ground in Match Day 2 of the Boys Schools Cricket Week.
The clash between two equals had all emotions with Gulu dominating in the run chase but Masaka SS found some favor with a collection of wickets that pushed the game to the end.
In the final over Gulu High School needed six off six but an unfortunate error in judgment on the boundary allowed the 1st ball to run away for a boundary which made it easy for Gulu High to knock off the winning runs with 3 balls to spare. The win pushed Gulu High into third place in Group B and kept their Super Six hopes alive.
In Group A action, tournament favorites Jinja SS remained unbeaten to keep charge of the group, and the defending champions made light work of Kiira College Mwiri. St John’s SS Mukono labored to get past Kiira College Butiki but got the result that kept them in second place. St Joseph’s College Layibi had a great day with the bat scoring more than 300 runs in their wins today.
Rubangakene Ronald with two half-centuries in the day 55 in the afternoon game and 86 not out in the morning game against Ntare School. St Joseph’s College Layibi taking care of their business to stay in touch with the leading teams in Group A.
In Group C Busoga College Mwiri will be grateful to their captain for winning both tosses in the games they won, the opportunity allowed them to score big with Gerald Olipa 137 off 41 balls notching up the 1st century of the tournament against St James SS, the century coming on the back of a half-century 97 off 41 balls in the morning against Horizon International School.
Busoga College Mwiri with the biggest team totals in the tournament so far and the two wins take them to the top of Group C. Aga Khan maintains their 100% record in the group as well with three wins out of three to stay in touch with table leaders Mwiri.
