The Uganda Men’s National Basketball Team, the Silverbacks, have announced their 12-man squad for the second leg of the FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers set to take place in Tripoli, Libya, later this month.

A major boost for Uganda is the return of Ishmail Wainright, who missed the first window of qualifiers.

His experience and skill will be crucial as the team looks to improve its standing in Group B.

Uganda currently has only one win from the first round and will need to step up against tough opponents, including Cape Verde, Nigeria, and hosts Libya.

The squad features a mix of local and foreign-based players, with seven from Uganda’s domestic league and five playing abroad.

Silverbacks Full Squad:

  • Jimmy Enabu
  • Tony Drileba
  • Fayed Baale
  • Ishmail Wainright
  • Ivan Muhwezi
  • Opong Robinson Odoch
  • Peter Obleng
  • Timothy Wamala
  • Deng John Geu
  • Jonathan Komagum
  • James Okello

Preparation is already underway, with the coaching staff meeting local players for training sessions before relocating to Cairo, Egypt, for an intensive one-week camp.

The team will then travel to Libya for their three crucial matchups:

  • Friday, February 21: Uganda vs. Cape Verde – 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, February 22: Nigeria vs. Uganda – 7:00 pm
  • Sunday, February 23: Uganda vs. Libya – 10:00 pm

Uganda will be aiming for a strong showing in Tripoli as they fight for a spot in the next round of Afrobasket qualifiers.
