  • Rez Life Saints 73-71 Namuwongo Blazers

Rezlife Saints continued to turn Lubowa into a fortress on Wednesday night, ending Namuwongo Blazers’ 15 game unbeaten run with a closely contested 73-71 victory in the National Basketball League.

Backed by a lively home crowd at Rez Life Recreational Park, the Saints stayed unbeaten on their home court and denied the defending champions a season double over them.

Edrine Ekau led the way with a brilliant 32 point display, shooting 7 for 14 from three point range as Rezlife claimed another major scalp this season.

The Saints had trailed 19-14 early on, but gradually settled into the contest through sharp shooting and strong defensive effort.

Duot Ajang added 14 points, while Hon Kwany and Chris Omanye scored 11 apiece.

The game was tied 51-51 heading into the fourth quarter before the Blazers briefly moved ahead 58-54.

But Rezlife responded quickly through Ajang and Rin Tueny Mabor, who both scored key layups to level matters again.

Omanye then produced five straight points during a decisive run that pushed the Saints ahead for good.

From there, Rezlife held their composure in the closing moments to seal a memorable win.

James Okello scored 15 points for the Blazers, while Jimmy Enabu added 14 and Nyembo Fataki contributed 10.

Namuwongo struggled from long range, making just six of their 25 three-point attempts, and were also outrebounded 48-45.

It was the Blazers’ first loss since their season-opening defeat to City Oilers and another statement result for a Rezlife side that has now beaten the league’s top two teams this season.

The victory improved Rezlife Saints to 13 wins in 17 games and strengthened hopes of their best season yet.

Earlier in Lubowa, Magic Stormers defeated Nabisunsa 67-62.

At YMCA Wandegeya, KIU Rangers beat Angels 53-47 while Victoria Crocs thrashed JKL Dolphins 74-34.
