Controversy greets Kadiba Uganda Cup final

The decision to stage the 2026 Uganda Cup final at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba has already sparked debate, with many questioning whether SC Villa could benefit from playing the season’s biggest domestic match at a venue they regularly use as home ground.

FUFA confirmed that this year’s final between SC Villa and Kitara FC will be played on Saturday, May 30 at Kadiba.

The stadium also hosted last year’s final where Vipers SC defeated KCCA FC 2-0 to lift the trophy, but this time the choice of venue has drawn more attention because of Villa’s familiarity with the ground.

SC Villa reached the final after eliminating URA FC 3-0 on aggregate, while Kitara FC edged past defending champions Vipers on the away goals rule following a goalless draw in Hoima and a 1-1 result in Kitende.

For both clubs, the Uganda Cup is their last chance to finish the season with silverware after Vipers wrapped up the Uganda Premier League title on Matchday 29.

Villa will also be chasing history. The nine-time winners have not lifted the trophy in 11 years since beating KCCA FC 3-0 in a replayed final at Nakivubo Stadium. Victory over Kitara would move them level with KCCA and Express FC as the competition’s most successful clubs with 10 titles each.

Kitara, who won their first Uganda Cup in 2024, are hoping to continue their rise with another major trophy.

But before kickoff arrives, much of the conversation is likely to remain on the venue and whether hosting the final at SC Villa’s current home gives the Jogoos an edge in one of the biggest matches of the season.
