2025/26 Uganda Cup | SF – Second Leg | Friday May 15

  • Vipers SC 1-1 Kitara FC (Agg 1-1, Kitara FC go through on away goals rule)

Kitara once again showed their growing reputation as a team for big moments after eliminating holders Vipers to reach the Plascon co-sponsored Uganda Cup final on Friday evening at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Royals earned a 1-1 draw in the semifinal return leg and progressed on the away goals rule after the first encounter in Hoima had ended goalless.

In front of a tense home crowd, Kitara struck first through Gaddafi Wahab, who reacted quickly after Jimmy Kalema’s header dropped kindly into his path before firing the visitors ahead in the opening half.

That goal immediately shifted the pressure onto Vipers, who suddenly needed two goals to keep their title defence alive.

The hosts responded through Karim Watambala, who calmly converted from the penalty spot after referee George Olemu ruled that Yunus Sentamu had been fouled inside the box.

The equaliser lifted Vipers and sparked an intense finish to the contest. The hosts threw numbers forward and searched desperately for the goal that would send them into the final.

But Kitara refused to break, the Royals defended bravely in the closing stages, absorbing relentless pressure as Vipers huffed and puffed without finding the decisive goal.

At the final whistle, Kitara’s players celebrated another major milestone in the club’s rise. It will be their second Uganda Cup final appearance after winning their maiden title in 2024 under coach Brian Ssenyondo.

Their latest run to the final further confirms Kitara’s growing status among Uganda’s emerging football forces.

For Vipers, attention now turns back to the Uganda Premier League title race where they lead second placed KCCA by three points with two matches remaining against Maroons away and Express at home.
