- KCCA Leopards 98-37 Angels
Susan Rebecca Aanyu put on the performance of her career as KCCA Leopards overran Angels 98-37 in the National Basketball League at Lugogo on Sunday.
Aanyu was unstoppable from start to finish, scoring a career high 46 points in a one sided contest that underlined KCCA’s dominance and Angels’ struggles. Remarkably, her points tally alone was nine more than Angels managed as a team.
The former Nkumba Lady Marines forward shot 16 for 23 from the field, hit five three pointers and made 9 of 11 free throws. She also collected eight rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes.
Angels showed early fight and trailed only 18-15 after the first quarter, but the game quickly slipped away from them.
KCCA completely took control in the second quarter, shutting out Angels and racing into a 47-15 halftime lead.
There was little resistance after the break as the Leopards continued to score with ease against an Angels side that committed 41 turnovers. KCCA eventually finished just two points short of the 100-mark.
Tracy Namugosa added 11 points while Martha Soigi scored 10 for KCCA.
For Angels, Marion Anyanzwa scored 10 points, the only player on the team to reach double figures. Rebecca Namatovu and Melissa Nantambi added six points each.
The win leaves KCCA with 13 victories in 17 games, with their only losses this season coming through forfeits against Miracle Eaglets.
Angels remain in danger of relegation after suffering their 16th defeat of the season.
On the same day and venue, UCU Lady Canons picked up a comfortable 73-56 win over Nabisunsa before UCU Canons added to the university side’s good day with a dominant 77-48 victory against JKL Dolphins in the women.
While in the men City Oilers also had little trouble seeing off Kampala Rockets 92-63, while Rezlife Saints closed the evening with a convincing 75-40 win over UMU Flames in another lopsided contest at Lugogo.
