2026 NBL: City Oilers overpower Rockets in Lugogo rout

City Oilers delivered another statement performance at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, easing past Kampala Rockets 92-63 in a game that showed their dominance and the Rockets’ struggles this season.

New signing Jonathan Komakum continued settling in, adding 12 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes during only his second appearance. 

He had earlier managed two points and 12 rebounds on debut against UMU Flames, showing steady all round contribution.

Fayed Bbaale and Joel ‘Banza’Lukoji led the charge with 20 points each, driving the Oilers’ attack as they controlled the game from start to finish.

Kampala Rockets showed early fight, trailing 30-23 after the first quarter and staying close in the second, which they lost 18-17. 

But after halftime, the Oilers pulled away with an 18-13 third quarter edge.

The fourth quarter was one-way traffic. The Rockets completely lost rhythm, managing only nine points as the Oilers closed out the game with a dominant 27-9 finish.

Shafik Kinyera and Francis Kasinde scored 16 and 15 points respectively for the Rockets, but their efforts could not stop another heavy defeat.

It was another tough outing for Kampala Rockets, who now have 14 losses and only two wins this season.

The Oilers, meanwhile, extended their strong run to 16 wins and just one defeat, maintaining their push at the top end of the standings.
