Maimuna Nabbosa believes JT Lady Jaguars are sending a clear warning to the rest of the National Basketball League after a dominant 93-62 win over defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday night.

The Jaguars were in control from start to finish, but it was their composure and execution that impressed most, especially against a side that has dominated Ugandan women’s basketball in recent seasons.

Nabbosa, who contributed 16 points in the win, said the result carried special meaning given the quality of the opposition.

“I’m very happy that we have secured this win. It’s a big win for us because these are the defending champions and we give them that respect,” she said.

“I am so proud of my teammates. We came here to fight regardless of the squad they had. We had to play like we were facing the champions, and it was a good night for us.”

JT Lady Jaguars started strongly, taking a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter after Sarah Ageno’s jump shot.

They stepped up in the second quarter, with Aziida Nabayunga hitting two three-pointers to stretch the lead to 21 points before halftime.

After the break, JKL Lady Dolphins improved their ball movement but continued to struggle in the paint and from distance. By the end of the third quarter, they were already 33 points behind.

The Jaguars refused to slow down in the final quarter, pushing the gap further as they closed out a convincing victory.

Priscillar Nambogo led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Nabbosa’s 16 and Nabayunga’s 14. For the Dolphins, Mellisa Taliba scored 17, Shiphrah Kiranda 15, and Tamasha Nansubuga 13.

A key difference came from three-point shooting, where JT Lady Jaguars hit 12 of 40 attempts, while the Dolphins managed just 2 from 24.

Nabbosa credited their improved shooting and hard work in training for the performance.

“I feel so good that we shot so well from three. It’s not easy to shoot at that percentage, but we’ve been working on it,” she said.

“The goal is to keep improving, and today it worked for us.”

With the Jaguars steadily rising since their Division One days, belief is growing inside the camp that a first major title is within reach.

“I’m so proud of the team. The progress is good,” Nabbosa said.

“Last season we came so close, but this season we are taking it home. I hope we don’t jinx it.”
