Home Athletics Ronald Musagala Returns to Track After Injury

Ronald Musagala, the Ugandan runner who set the pace for Joshua Cheptegei to win gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, returned to the track over the weekend after a hamstring injury.

Musagala finished third in Heat Three of the Fifth National Trials in Namboole, behind his Uganda Wildlife Authority teammate and training partner, Abu Mayanja.

“Ronald was a few weeks ago very sick,” said his coach Addy Ruiter. “It’s clear that he is still not 100 per cent fit.”

Despite his lack of fitness, Musagala is still planning to compete in the Oregon World Athletics Championships in July.

“The fighter in him will surely surface,” said Ruiter.

A number of upstarts failed to hit the required time to qualify for the World U20 Championships set for Cali, Colombia, from August 2-7.
