SC Villa and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC Enter Into Partnership

Startimes Uganda Premier League side SC Villa and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club, have reportedly entered into partnership.

Under the agreement, SC Villa will take Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC as its sole women’s team, and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC will equally take SC Villa as its sole men’s team for all official engagements, including FUFA, CAF, and FIFA competitions.

The partnership is a major boost for women’s football in Uganda, as it will provide Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC with the technical, financial and logistical support they need to compete at the top level.

SC Villa is the most successful club in Ugandan football, having won the Uganda Premier League a record 16 times. It is reported that they will meet some expenses for Uganda Martyrs like costs of away matches among others.

Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC is a relatively new club, but they have quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the FUFA Women Super League.

During the 2021/22 season, SC Villa spent some of the time training at St Gerald’s playground the home of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC, and this resulted started the relationship between the two entities.

Its also believed that, Uganda Premier League side URA FC approached Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC to partner up, but the Lubaga based club turned down the offer only to accept SC Villa.

The 2023 FUFA Women’s Cup winners Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC, will retain their brand identity and host their games at St Gerald’s playground in Lubaga.

Last season, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC and SC Villa, both finished third in the FUFA Women Super League and Startimes Uganda Premier League respectively.

After CAF making it mandatory for clubs that participate in its competitions to have a women’s team, KCCA FC confirmed Kampala Queens FC as it’s women’s team while Vipers SC secured newly promoted side Wakiso Hills WFC.

The partnership between SC Villa and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC is a sign of the growing popularity of women’s football in Uganda.
