FUFA has demonstrated strong organization by making an early announcement of the key dates for the 2026–2027 season, which sees the kickoff shifted from its traditional September slot to August 28.

Ahead of the opening whistle, clubs are required to submit their club licensing applications before July 15. The successfully licensed clubs will be confirmed on July 27, just a day before the official league fixtures are released on July 28.

Following the licensing process which includes rigorous inspections of required standards, teams will have the chance to test their squads in the Super 8 tournament. Featuring the top eight finishers from last season, the tournament is scheduled to run between August 1 and August 16.

A week later, reigning league champions Vipers SC will face Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC in the Uganda Super Cup, setting the stage for the official league kickoff.

With the new season expanding from 16 to 18 teams, the resulting increase in fixtures appears to have triggered this highly anticipated early start.

In the recently concluded season, only two clubs were relegated instead of the usual three, while four teams are making the step up from the Big League.

Blacks Power, Kigezi Homeboyz, and Ntungasazi FC have already secured automatic promotion, leaving Kataka FC and Paidha Black Angels to battle it out for the final remaining slot.
