After narrowly surviving relegation on the final day of the Uganda Premier League a couple of days ago, Lugazi Football Club are now coachless.

A club statement seen by Nnalubaale Sports broke the news that Lugazi FC has mutually parted ways with Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and Assistant Coach Robert Ssekweyama.

“They worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club, but both the results and the performances fell below the team’s targets and expectations. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future,” read part of the statement.

Both Mugerwa and Ssekweyama signed individual one-year contracts with the club back in December 2025. According to trusted club sources, their primary target was to secure a top-eight finish.

The duo had replaced Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa, who were dismissed in late December 2025 following a poor run of results that left the team hovering near the bottom of the Uganda Premier League table.

At the time of their appointment, Lugazi FC was languishing in the relegation zone, occupying 14th position with just 10 points from 11 matches—a situation that had deeply unsettled fans and club officials. Ultimately, the club finished just one place above the relegation zone.

“The club is now exploring options for the Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach roles, and further updates will follow in due course,” the club statement concluded.

Mugerwa previously coached Mbarara City, Proline FC, and Police FC, whom he famously guided from the second tier back to the Uganda Premier League in just one season before walking away from the Cops in April 2025.

In addition, he served as an assistant coach at Fire Masters (2010–2012), SC Villa (2018–2019), and Bright Stars (2019–2022).

For Ssekwayama he joined Lugazi FC with a wealth of top-flight football experience. He has previously served as an assistant coach at several prominent clubs, including Police FC, Wakiso Giants, Maroons, SC Villa, Express FC, and Mbarara City.
