The five-day tournament is also a pathway to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, an event every athlete dreams of since childhood.

The victor of this arduous zonal tournament secures a berth in the esteemed African Nations Volleyball Championship 2026, set to occur this September in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (for men) and Nairobi, Kenya (for women).

“We are the biggest Zone in Africa with 12 countries; we are therefore going to lobby for more qualification slots from this competition,” said Sadik Nasiwu, President of CAVB Zone V, during the technical meeting.

For now, the qualification is based on a round-robin format, and the winners from both genders will be confirmed on June 6, 2026.

Looking back, as of January 12, a total of 23 women’s teams and 27 men’s teams had registered for the African Nations Championships. The significant interest from throughout the continent compelled CAVB to urge its zones to conduct qualifying competitions.

According to the structure approved by the CAVB Board of Administration, champions from the six zones will automatically qualify for the finals. They will join the host country and nine other teams chosen through ranking and registration systems, resulting in a 16-team field in both the men’s and women’s championships.

Participating Teams:
Women’s Division: Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan

Men’s Division: Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan, Tanzania
