In a move that strengthens their midfield, New York Red Bulls II have re-signed Ugandan midfielder Steven Sserwadda to a two-year contract, keeping him with the club through the 2026 season. The deal is pending visa and registration approval.
This comes just weeks after the team rewarded another Ugandan talent, Ibrahim Kasule, with a new contract, highlighting the club’s continued focus on nurturing international talent.
Sserwadda’s extension reflects the Red Bulls II’s belief in his potential and work ethic on the field.

Head Coach Ibrahim Ssekagya expressed his enthusiasm about having Sserwadda back, describing him as an essential part of the squad.
“We are happy to have Steven back with the squad,” Ssekagya said. “He is a hardworking midfielder, who will be valuable in our system and will bring great experience to the team.”

Sserwadda, who has played for Red Bulls II since 2021, has made 41 appearances for the club across three seasons, scoring four goals and recording two assists.
He marked several career milestones last season, scoring his first MLS NEXT Pro goal against Philadelphia Union II on April 21, 2024, and notching his first assist on September 1, 2024, in a match against Carolina Core FC.
The midfielder’s journey with Red Bulls II began in 2021 when he made his debut in the USL Championship against Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Since then, Sserwadda has continued to grow both as a player and a leader. His performances earned him a brief call-up to the New York Red Bulls’ first team, where he made his MLS debut on June 30, 2022, in a match against Atlanta United FC.
Sserwadda appeared in two matches for the senior team, logging a total of 27 minutes.

Beyond his club career, Sserwadda has earned recognition on the international stage. The Uganda native has made four appearances for the Uganda National Team, totalling 210 minutes of play.
He made his senior debut for the national team on March 25, 2022, against Tajikistan. Sserwadda also played a key role in Uganda’s strong showing at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where the team finished as runners-up.
During the tournament, he scored two goals and helped guide the team to a second-place finish.
Before joining New York Red Bulls II, Sserwadda played for Kampala Capital City Authority FC in the Ugandan Premier League, marking his first professional steps before making the jump to the international scene.
The re-signing of Sserwadda underscores Red Bulls II’s commitment to building a dynamic, hardworking midfield, and with his blend of experience at both the club and international levels, he will be a valuable asset in the team’s quest for success over the next few seasons.
