Kampala Capital City Authority Netball Club‘s fine form this season continued with an important hard-fought win against rival sisters Makindye Weyonje at Kamwokya Community Sports Centre.

After beating NIC last weekend, on Wednesday, KCCA won another big game in the league, beating damaged Makindye Weyonje by 41-37.

The first two quarters ended in a 11 goal draw before KCCA got the advantage in the third quarter, winning it 10-07.

They again won the last quarter 9-8 to eventually win the game with a 41-37 final score.

In third quarter, Weyonje’s main shooter and their top scorer with 248 goals this season, Asinah Kabendela limped off the court which lowered Jesse Assiimwe‘s side scoring rate.

Another blow for Weyonje came in the last quarter when their skipper, Shakirah Nassaka fainted on court and was rushed to the hospital.

Assiimwe, the Weyonje Netball Club tactician revealed that they had a chance to win the derby but the unexpected injuries and limited squad depth cost them.

“I brought on short players because I ran out of options, it wasn’t tactical, we never planned for injuries, and our squad is limited so I had to field the players who can maintain the ball.”

His counterpart, experienced tactician, Fred Mugerwa had no good words or praise to his girls with the game they have displayed despite the important win.

“I am not satisfied with how we played. What I can say, the players never followed the instructions, we really played not well,” furious Mugerwa said.

Last season when the two faced off, Weyonje won the first round and KCCA took the second round.

The win moved KCCA (with three games in hand) two places from fourth to second, only two points behind table leaders NIC (14 points).

In other results, Prisons won it’s two games on menu beating Mutelx Life Sport 50-30 and winning 58-43 against UCU.

Defending champions NIC returned to winning ways with a comfortable 53-31 victory against UPDF.

The league will return over weekend with three games at Busia where UPDF, NIC, KCCA and Busia Greater Lions will be in action.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS:
Mutelx Life Sport 30-50 Prisons
UPDF 31-53 NIC
Prisons 58-43 UCU
