Chaos at the center as Express, Busoga game is abandoned

Hooliganism yet again took center stage as Express FC neared a 1-0 Uganda Premier League victory against Busoga United at the Kakindu Stadium on Wednesday.

Allan Kayiwa had struck brilliantly through an 87th minute freekick to hand the guests a 1-0 lead, before the home fans started a stoning spree, contesting alleged unbalanced officiation, leading to halting and later abandonment of the game.

The players and match officials stayed on the pitch for over 30 minutes, before later leaving with escort from Police.

This is the most recent act of hooliganism this season after SC Villa and Wakiso Giants game at Wankuluku last week, where the former’s fans pelted stones, injuring the latter’s physician in the process.

Goalkeeper Michael Lutaaya had kept Busoga United in the game with several saves earlier, in a contest Express fully dominated.

Express will host Soltilo Bright Stars on November 22 at Wankulukuku in their next fixture, while Busoga have a derby against BUL on the same day at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
