Onyango hints at possible Cranes return

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango is set for a Uganda Cranes return, if his latest social media activity is anything to go by.

The 37-year-old had called it quits with the national team in April 2021, soon after the Uganda Cranes failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, but now, he’s set for a rebirth.

“Uganda Cranes, guess who’s back?” tweeted Onyango on Thursday.

Over a year back, many asserted that it was a forced decision to quit but Onyango has always stressed it was an individual choice to hang his gloves.

Efforts to reach Onyango by this website about the aforementioned development hit a dead end.

The custodian was in goal for the Cranes in over 75 official appearances in a 16-year international career.

H guided Uganda back to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017, after close to 40 years of waiting. This was before he repeated the same feat two years later.

His possible return would not entirely be pleasing news for the new crop of goalkeepers in Charles Lukwago, Alionzi Nafian, Ismail Watenga among others.
