The weather has not been favourable since the Cricket Cranes arrived in Trinidad & Tobago to prepare for their final Group C fixture against New Zealand, scheduled for the early hours of June 15 (Friday morning) at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando.
While Georgetown was hot, humid and a little rainy, the team has had to quickly adapt to the contrasting conditions in Port of Spain.
This has seen a mix of brief sunshine but predominantly cold, chilly, and wet weather. Significant rainfall has hampered the team’s training sessions, making practice challenging.
Despite these obstacles, the coaches are determined to get the players back in rhythm and ensure they recover well from the rigours of the West Indies game at Providence Stadium last Sunday and the travel from Georgetown.
They have pushed extra hard to make the most out of the limited training opportunities available. On Monday, the team had a light workout session at the Bryan Davis Indoor Cricket Centre at the iconic Queen’s Park Oval.
Earlier on Tuesday, the team practiced at the Sir Frank Worrell Oval, located at the University of West Indies, approximately 10 kilometers from their new base at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Despite the training being optional, there was a full turnout, with only vice-captain Riazat Ali Shah and opening bowler Cosmas Kyewuta sitting out.
Strength and Conditioning Coach Emmanuel Oroma supervised a thorough warm-up and bronco session to get the players’ bodies moving.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t a really useful workout for both batters and bowlers with practice square and wicket unplayable as it was still damp.
Uganda has so far won one match, against Papua New Guinea, and lost two; to West Indies by 134 runs and Afghanistan by 125 runs in their maiden appearance at this ninth ICC T20 Men’s World Cup.
