Overview

Oscar Ntambi is one of those rally drivers whose journey proves that every champion once stood in the dust as a fan probably shouting “flat out!” without knowing what it really means.

Growing up in Buziga, Kampala, Ntambi’s first experience with rallying was from the roadside, where the only safety gear was jumping back fast enough when cars approached.

Like many before him, he also sharpened his “skills” on video games, where you can crash ten times in one stage and still restart like nothing happened something real rally mechanics would strongly disagree with.

Entry into Motorsport

When he decided to join rallying around 2017, Ntambi didn’t just buy a car he built one with his brother. Now, building a rally car in Uganda is a special kind of courage.

It means every bolt has a story, every sound has a meaning, and every strange vibration is either “normal” or the beginning of a very expensive problem.

His early days in Garuga were all about learning pace, control, and the important lesson that the car does not always agree with your plans especially in corners that look innocent but behave like traps.

He made his debut in 2019 at the Garuga Sprint and quickly rose through the ranks. By 2021, he was winning in the Clubman Rally Championship, and in 2022, he dominated the 2WD category, clinching both the clubman championship and the sprint title.

At that point, competitors probably checked the entry list first before planning their strategy because if Ntambi was in, things just got serious.

Co-driver Partnership

Since last year, Oscar Ntambi has teamed up with Pius Luggya, marking a new chapter in his rally career after a long-standing partnership with Mohammad Uthumaan that dated back to 2018. In rallying, a co-driver is far more than just a passenger they are the voice of reason when the driver is tempted to “send it,” and that relationship is built entirely on trust, because when “flat right” is called, there’s no time for questions only commitment.

Ntambi and Uthumaan developed strong chemistry over the years, navigating tough rallies and challenging conditions together, with the occasional “in-car meeting” after a close call, as is tradition in rallying; now, with Luggya on the notes, Ntambi continues that legacy, combining experience with a fresh dynamic as they aim for even greater success.

Vehicle

Ntambi currently drives a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (Ralliart), a machine built for speed, endurance, and occasionally testing the driver’s bravery. Before this, he competed in a Subaru Impreza N10 as he transitioned into four-wheel-drive competition.

As any rally driver will tell you, upgrading to a faster car doesn’t just increase speed it increases responsibility… and sometimes the size of the mistakes.

The Evo X gives Ntambi the performance needed to compete at the top level, though like any rally car, it still demands respect because in rallying, even the best machines can humble you in one corner.

Ntambi’s career reached a major milestone at the Safari Rally Kenya in 2026, where he not only finished one of the toughest rallies in the world but also won the ARC2 category. Supported by KCB Bank, he continues to grow as a competitive force in African rallying.

The Shell Vpower Pearl Of Africa Uganda Rally 2026

During this year’s Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Oscar Ntambi will be competing on home ground, carrying strong momentum after his ARC2 category victory at the Safari Rally Kenya.

With confidence high and familiarity with the terrain on his side, he will once again be pushing for maximum points to brighten his chances of securing this year’s ARC2 title, knowing that a strong performance at home could be a decisive step in his championship campaign.

Summary

From a roadside fan to a rally winner, his journey is a mix of determination, skill, and just enough rally madness to keep things exciting.

Because in the end, rallying isn’t just about being fast, it’s about surviving the stages, trusting your co-driver, and occasionally explaining to fans why the car is parked in a place it was never supposed to be.
