As far as scripts go, Day 1 of the 2023 edition of the Tooro 7s has rendered writers useless, delivering more upsets and suprises than the entire National sevens calendar combined.

A rejuvenated Rhinos dumped Rujumba 7s winners, Platinum credit Heathens out of the main cup to put the cherry on the cake for day 1.

The yellow machine had struggled for the whole day and their implosion was bound to happen.

They had earlier lost to the Impis – with these results meaning they’re out of the main cup quarters.

Earlier on, the Rams shut out the reigning Tooro 7s champs, KOBs winning 7-5 in their last game of Group B to earn top spot.

The Mongers continue to be the bogey side for the Hippos this year and the latter were subjected to another loss in their group D matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Pirates were the only big boy to escape day 1 without major dents, and will come up against a familiar foe in the quarterfinals, KOBs.

Owing to their satisfying day 1 exploits, the Impis have a quarterfinals date with reigning 7s champions, Jinja Hippos.

The Rhinos will play Mongers in the third quarterfinal, while Rams will entertain the Toyota Bufflaoes in the other fixture.

Now in unfamiliar territory, Heathens faithful will have to be up early to face the Mbarara Titans in the Challenger Cup at the first game on Day 2.

Main Cup Quarterfinals:

Impis vs Jinja Hippos
Pirates vs KOBs
Mongers vs Rhinos
Rams vs Buffaloes
