The players in Uganda’s national team setup are gearing up for a busy week with a series of matches featuring visiting teams from Bahrain and Italy.
With only days to go before the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup Challenge League (CWCCL) B, slated for November 4-16 at Lugogo and Entebbe Oval, both Uganda’s Cricket Cranes and Select XI teams are seizing these games as vital match practice. For players, it’s a golden chance to showcase their skills and stake claims for national squad selection going forward.
The Ugandan sides will participate in four 50-over fixtures over the next week. These matches will allow national team coaches, including Head Coach Abhay Sharma and Assistant Coach Jackson Ogwang, to assess player readiness and adaptability while keeping the spotlight on Uganda’s promising cricket talent.
High-Performance Consultant Craig Williams, a former Namibia captain, noted that Uganda’s focus remains on batting development, fostering a mindset that balances technique with confidence.
Assistant Coach Jackson Ogwang has already shifted his base to Kamengo, overseeing matches at Serenity Oval where Roger Mukasa will captain Uganda Select XI against Italy on October 31 and November 2.
Another Uganda Select XI, led by Simon Ssesazi, will take on Bahrain on November 3 in Jinja, rounding out the series of preparatory matches.
