Uganda set to host Women’s Day Cup as Victoria Pearls eye glory

The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) is set to host the highly anticipated Women’s Day Series, a prestigious T20 international tournament featuring four competitive teams; Uganda (Victoria Pearls), Nepal, Namibia, and Hong Kong.

The tournament will take place at Entebbe Cricket Oval from March 7 to March 17, 2025, promising thrilling cricket action as top associate nations compete for glory.

The Victoria Pearls, Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, will proudly represent the country in the tournament, aiming to make the most of their home advantage.

Led by Janet Mbabazi, the squad comprises a mix of experienced players and emerging talents who will look to assert their dominance against strong opposition from Nepal, Namibia, and Hong Kong.

The Women’s Day Series is cited to be more than just a competition as it will serve as a platform to promote women’s cricket in Uganda and beyond.

It is also set to align with International Women’s Day celebrations, emphasizing the importance of empowering women in sports.

“We are excited to host this prestigious tournament and welcome our fellow cricketing nations to Uganda. This event is about competition, progress, and inspiring future generations of women cricketers,” said Lelia Namaganda Ondeko, Uganda Cricket Association Women’s Representative.

With the Victoria Pearls set to battle it out on home soil, Uganda’s cricket fans will be hoping for a strong performance as the team aims to make history in the Women’s Day Series.
