Uganda’s women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, clinched a dramatic one-run victory over Namibia in the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series at the Lakeside Oval on March 10, 2025.

In a low-scoring yet fiercely contested match, Uganda defended a modest total of 71 to secure a thrilling win, showcasing their resilience and tactical brilliance.

After Namibia-W won the toss and chose to bowl, Uganda had to bat and found themselves in early trouble as Immaculate Nakisuuyi was run out for a duck.

Janet Mbabazi (19 off 29) and Esther Iloku (21 off 31) steadied the innings with a patient stand, but Namibia’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Eveleen Kejarukua (3/13), kept Uganda in check.

Despite late contributions from Rita Musamali (16* off 13) and Malisa Ariokot (7 off 8), Uganda managed only 71/6 in their 16 overs.

Namibia’s bowlers, particularly Kejarukua, kept the pressure on, ensuring Uganda couldn’t accelerate freely.

Chasing a target of 72, Namibia started cautiously. Opener Suné Wittmann (9 off 8) was dismissed hit-wicket by Consylate Aweko, setting the tone for a tense chase.

Yasmeen Khan (15 off 21) and Arrasta Diergaardt (9 off 11) attempted to anchor the innings, but Uganda’s bowlers struck at crucial moments.

The match turned dramatically in the final overs, with Sarah Akiteng emerging as Uganda’s hero.

She delivered a stunning spell, claiming 5 wickets for just 14 runs in 4 overs, dismantling Namibia’s middle order.

With Namibia needing just a few runs to win, Uganda held their nerve, executing two key run-outs and restricting the visitors to 70/9, sealing a remarkable one-run victory.

This thrilling victory marked an important second win for the Victoria Pearls in the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series

Having won against Hong Kong, today to Namibia and lost to Nepal on Sunday, March 9.

With momentum on their side, Uganda will look to build on this win to face Hong Kong once again after resting tomorrow March 11 before they continue their campaign series on March 12.

Only the top two sides will be in the Final slated for March 16 at the Lakeside Oval whereas the other two engage in the third-place playoff.
