NEC FC is riding high on a wave of success, and they’re looking to maintain their momentum as they face off against Express FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. The match is scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.
NEC FC has been on a roll, winning all three of their opening matches of the season thanks to the impressive form of Enock Ssebagala.
Ahead of the match, NEC FC head coach Hussein Mbalangu issued a respectful warning to the Red Eagles, emphasizing that NEC FC is are ready to tripple their effort to defeat Express, a a formidable opponent with rich history.
“Alhamudulillah we have had a start which is in line with our targets, this season we want to perform better than we did last season, and last season we didn’t win our opening 3 games,” he said.
“We’ve prepared ourselves through our pre-season and recruitment, and we deserve to perform as we do,” he concluded.
In their last league fixture, NEC FC defeated UPDF FC 1-0, thanks to wing-back Rashid Okocha’s goal.
Express FC, on the other hand, has struggled to find their footing under coach Baker Mbowa. Despite a 2-1 win over Mbale Heroes on the opening day, the team has only managed four points in total this season and were held to a goalless stalement by Maroons in their last outing.

In last game between the two sides NEC FC defeated Express FC 2-1 with Enock Ssebagala opening the scoring for NEC before Express striker Isaac Wagoina levelled matters. Midfielder Musa Ssali scored in his own net to hand NEC the victory.
Going into the encounter, the Mukwano Gw’abaangi will be without the services of injured striker Sam Ssenyonjo, the only player to score for the team this season.
On a positive note, the rest of the squad is available for selection and former Vipers forward Richard Basangwa is expected to make his debut for Express.
For NEC FC, Ibrahim Tembo, Gadafi Wahab and long-term absentee Joseph Data are set to miss the game but playmaker Muzamir Mutyaba should return to the team.
