World Championships: Chemutai struggles in 3000m steeplechase finals

Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai failed to live up to the billing after she struggled in the 3000m Steeplechase, at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon on Thursday morning.

Despite the high expectations, Chemutai clocked 9:21.93 as she finished a distant 11th position, to agonizingly miss out from the medal bracket.

After a good start which had her keep within third position by the 1500m mark, Chemutai eventually started slowing down with struggles in jumping the barriers.

Norah Jeruto, who is Kenyan born but a Kazakhstan athlete, bagged gold after posting an impressive 8:53.02, which was also a championship record time.

The Ethiopian combo of Werkuha Getachew and Mekides Abebe finished second and third, taking home silver and bronze medals respectively.

Gold medalist at the Championships (10,000m), Joshua Cheptegei will return to action in the 5000m heats on Friday, as he hopes to bring home a double.
