Ahead of Uganda Cranes’ opening match at the 2023 African Nations Championships (CHAN) with Democratic Republic of Congo today, head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich and captain Milton Karisa have expressed optimism for triumph in Algeria.
This will be Cranes’ sixth successive CHAN finals, but the previous five attempts have been abysmal, as the team failed to make the knockout stages on all attempts.
But, the gaffer is confident the kind of preparations coupled with unity, should do the trick if Uganda is to have a successful tournament, kick-starting with the opener in Annaba.
“I believe that we have prepared very well and we are theoretically and practically aware of the sources of vulnerability of the opponent,” Micho noted.
“We have to use this opportunity as a perfect platform where individuals present themselves in the best possible way, representing the country, but only as a team.”
Micho’s leading General, skipper Milton Karisa stressed his coach’s words, reiterating the team’s readiness to give everything for success.
“Every team that qualifies is equally good and we are one of them. We have prepared well and everyone is ready to give everything they can in today’s game,” he said.
“The match is not an easy one. We’ll respect them (DRC) but won’t fear them, because our team is good enough,” added the forward.
