The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has received Ugx. 2 billion from government to help in the preparations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN).

The funds come at a time when the Federation threatened withdrawal from the tournament set for Algeria in January 2023, over lack of the same.

“I thank the Government of Uganda led by HE President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni , First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mama Janet Museveni,” stated FUFA president Moses Magogo.

“Parliament of Uganda, Ministry of Finance, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports and various Government organs for playing a key role in the release of the funds,” he added.

“We are glad to receive this timely support from Government as the Uganda Cranes CHAN Squad is already in camp preparing for CHAN Finals due next month in Algeria.”

The team is set to jet out of the country on January 1st to Tunisia for three buildup matches before making it to Algeria.

Uganda is pitted in Group B along with Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich’s team will open their campaign against DRC on January 14th at the 19 May Stadium Annaba.
