As preparations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) take shape, Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich has sent seven players home.

Cromwel Rwothomio, Grant Matsiko, Arthur Kiggundu, Filbert Obenchan, Bright Vuni, Muhammed Ssenoga Kagawa and Hussein Ssenoga are the first bunch to be put out.

The opportunity to represent their nation, missing out on the fat cheques and a golden chance of showcasing their skills on a big stage to attract greener pastures had some players in tears.

The summoned provisional squad had 37 locally based players, but is now down to 30. On Saturday, it will further be trimmed to a final 25-man squad.

The Cranes will then on Sunday, head to Tunisia for another training camp where they have three buildup matches before the tournament on January 13th, in Algeria.

Uganda is pitted in Group B along with Ivory Coast, Senegal and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Micho’s charges will open their campaign on January 14th against DRC at the 19 May Stadium, Annaba.
