Uganda has become the first African nation to benefit from FIFA’s new Professionalization and Management Programme. The initiative, which aims to enhance the capacity of football clubs and leagues, kicked off on October 31st, 2024, at the Gold Tolip Hotel.
A high turnout of club representatives, including officials from Lugazi FC, Express FC, KCCA FC, and Vipers SC, attended the first day of the workshop.
The participants expressed enthusiasm about the program and its potential to improve their clubs’ governance, marketing, and overall management.
Lugazi FC proprietor Abdu Mwanje Kawuulu expressed optimism about the program’s potential impact on his club.
“As a community club, we believe this program will significantly benefit us. The knowledge and insights we gain will help us improve our governance, marketing, and overall club management,” he said.
FUFA President Moses Magogo emphasized the importance of education and knowledge in achieving long-term success. He commended FIFA’s decision to extend support to clubs, recognizing their crucial role in the development of football.
FIFA Head of Development Programmes Africa, Solomon Mudege, emphasized the importance of this initiative in developing African football. “This program is a crucial step in building the capacity of African clubs and leagues. By empowering club officials, we can contribute to the long-term development of the game in the continent,” he stated.
The FIFA delegation, which includes Marcos Pelegrin, Javier Jose Pedro Sobrino, and Pedro Manuel Correa Mitanda, will be working closely with Ugandan stakeholders to implement the program’s goals.
