Team Uganda came third in the FIM Africa Motocross of Africa Nations Championships that took center stage at the Victoria Track, Garuga throughout the weekend.
And, according to captain Alestair Blick, the Pearl of Africa’s objectives going into the Championships, came to fruition.
“Our expectations were to come in top three. There was a battle between South Africa and Zambia but at least, we managed the top three,” he said to the media on Sunday.
South Africa were the overall winners with 654 points, just one ahead of runners-up Zambia, and, Blick feels the Ugandan team put up great displays against the continent’s top guns.
“South Africa had all their top riders and we tried to battle with them for the points.”
South Africa’s Jayden Proctor (MX1), Breece Romans (MX125), Callan Broskie (MX2) and Aiden Retief (MX 65) all claimed MX titles in their categories.
For Uganda though, Malcolm Gift Ssebuguzi clinched victory in the MX Lite class despite stiff competition from South Africa’s Ronald Graven.
Blick finished third in the MX1 while Miguel Katende managed second in the MX65 category.
Meanwhile, James Akena and Fatuh Kiggundu managed runners-up finishes in the Veteran class and MX2 respectively.
