Kitara FC wrapped off a hugely competitive 2022/23 FUFA Big League campaign with a trophy yesterday.
Having been promoted to the Uganda Premier League a week back, they served their loyal fans with silverware.
The Royals beat Kaaro Karungi FC 1-0 in the season’s final game at the Kigaaya Primary School Playgrounds, thanks to Paul Mucureezi’s strike.
The Hoima side beat Mbarara City FC to the trophy, despite the latter defeating Northern Gateway SC 3-0, to not only settle for second place but also earn promotion.
Kitara accumulated 61 points in 30 matches, while Mbarara City garnered 60 for the season.
The hosts searched for an early goal, and their pressure nearly got rewarded in the fifth minute, but Paddy Muhumuza shot inches over the bar.
In the 28th minute, forward George Ssenkaaba failed to convert for the hosts, missing a great opportunity.
Mucureezi, in the 35th minute, stepped up for Kitara FC to convert from the spot after Muhumuza had been brought down in the box.
The Sam Ssimbwa-coached side held on well to clinch the trophy and return to the Uganda Premier League with the glory they deserved.
