Makerere University proved too strong for Ndejje University as they defeated them 3-0 away in Luweero on Saturday in the University Football League.

Ivan Oceng, Emmanuel Ekwong, and Sadat Kasaga scored in the 4th, 63rd, and 80th minutes, respectively, as Makerere made it two wins in two games. Earlier, they had defeated Kyambogo 1-0.

Makerere coach Douglas Bamwenyana praised his side for the victory.

“We were happy with the result, but we were not happy with the turf because of the rains. It was not friendly like we would have wanted it.”

“But we managed to find a result in any way. We look forward to the next game,” noted Bamwenyana.

For Ndejje University, who were playing their first game this season, one of their players, Christopher Ashakimana, revealed that the heavy downpour affected their plan.

“We thought it was not going to rain. When we reached the pitch, the morale of the boys was down. We conceded an early goal which cost us,” noted Ashakimana.

When asked if they have any chance to progress past the group stages, he reasoned:

“This is our first game and we still have more games to play, but I believe we shall qualify for the knockout stage. This was just a bad day in office,” he added.

The league resumes on Sunday when Bugema hosts Kabale University at home.
