“We appreciate the organizers of this tournament. My team is ready, we have been waiting for this moment and I believe the trophy is coming to Masaka.”

Muteesa I Royal University head coach George William Ssengabi did not try to dress it up. His message was confident ahead of Saturday’s University Football League final against YMCA at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo on Saturday May 2, 2026.

Speaking at Thursday’s media briefing, Ssengabi made it clear his side feels prepared for the moment. After months of hard work, they now stand one game away from their first league title.

Muteesa I Royal University earned their place in the final with a 3-1 aggregate win over St Lawrence University, ending the Saints’ six-year unbeaten run at home. It was a result that showed both quality and belief.

YMCA, however, have their own story. They reached their first-ever final after edging Kampala University 6-5 on penalties following a tight semifinal. Like Muteesa, they are chasing a first title.

Saturday’s match will also mark a new chapter for the competition. It will be the first time the final is played at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo, adding extra weight to an already big occasion.

Captains Jjunju Eddie and Ratib Ramadhan called on fans to turn up and support their teams, describing the match as a defining moment.

Last year, Uganda Martyrs University beat St Lawrence University 3-0 to lift the trophy. This time, a new winner is guaranteed.
