Buganda Sports Minister Robert Sserwanga has appealed to schools with late interests to continue registering in the Buganda Schools Championship.
During a technical meeting held on 6th March 2025 at Kunganiro in Bulange-Mengo, the minister asked the technical organizers to reopen registration to allow schools that have expressed interest in participating in this year’s Buganda Schools Championship.
The registration was meant to close today (6th March) but with immediate effect, the closure got extended to Saturday, 8th March.

“I understand that the teachers are very late but it is not good to lock out the kids. This competition can be a lifetime changer to some kids and we may be locking out someone who can change the image of this championship. Sometimes we need to allow others to pass us in progress because they may be the ones who are carrying our blessings.
“The Kabaka wants all students in Buganda to have a chance to grow their talents therefore I ask our technical team to allow teams that have shown late interest to get in.”
This came when football already sealed the number of teams wanted 32 and already drawn into eight groups but with the registration extension, the championship opened a room for more eight teams to join.
The 2025 Buganda Schools Championship has announced five sports disciplines on the card including Football for both genders, Handball for both genders, Basketball for both genders, mind games and Netball.
The championship which has already attracted 12 primary schools and 40 secondary schools is scheduled to take place from 13th to 16th March at Kawanda SS.
The minister also hinted at the purpose of the championship to Buganda Schools Games’ teachers
“As Buganda, we have this championship to prepare our schools for the national schools championship therefore this is not a do or die to win. I urge you to let the championship flow on merit so that the best team wins to allow our championship to keep growing.”
