Uganda Senior Women’s team star-forward, Fazila Ikwaput has completed a return to Europe, this time to Cyprus.
She has left FUFA Women Super League side, Lady Doves to join Cyprus top-tier outfit, AC Omonoia Women FC.
The proven goal-scorer will be trading her game in Europe for the second time, following her first engagements with Kazakhstan side, BIIK-Kazygurt in 2018.
“I am pleased to let you all know that I have joined AC Omonoia Women Football Club in Cyprus,” the 26-year-old said in a statement released on Tuesday.
“I would like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to fulfilling the club’s target for the time I shall be with them.”
When she left Kazakhstan, she returned home and joined Lady Doves for the 2019/2020 season, and in the 2020/2021 campaign, they won the FUFA Women Super League.
“I say a fond farewell to Lady Doves Football Club where I have been for the last three seasons calling it home.”
“I would like to thank the club director, staff, coaches, teammates, and fans for the support they have offered me and the good times we have shared and enjoyed together.”
“I will forever be grateful and would like to wish the club the very best of luck in the forthcoming season and for the future,” she stated.
During Lady Doves’ title-winning season, Ikwaput won the golden boot and was as well named the Most Valuable Player of the FUFA WSL.
Her outstanding performance earned Lady Doves a place at the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League – they finished third in the qualifiers.
In the 2021/22 campaign, she finished as the FUFA WSL joint top scorer on 15 goals level with UCU Lady Cardinals’ Hasifa Nassuna.
As Crested Cranes won their maiden CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship as hosts in 2022, Ikwaput scored six goals and was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Furthermore, she was part of the Crested Cranes team that played at the recently concluded CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco – a tournament the Cranes qualified for after an absence of 22 years.
Besides Europe, Ikwaput has also played in India with Gokulam Kerala FC Women in 2018 at the professional level.
In Uganda, the striker started her career with Olila High School Ladies in 2016 until 2018 before she went to India.
It is worth noting that while she was featuring for BIIK-Kazygurt, Ikwaput played in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and netted a goal in her side’s 3-1 victory over Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the 2017 Airtel FUFA Female Player of the Year is among the other individual accolades that she holds.
