Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has warned that Tanzania under freshly appointed coach, Honor Janza will pose a much bigger threat than it did previously.
Uganda will play hosts to Taifa Stars in the second leg of the African Nations Championship qualifiers on Saturday, September 3 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Janza was appointed on Monday following the sacking of Kim Poulsen who was sacked due to a poor run of results. The 1-0 loss to Uganda in Dar es Salaam on Sunday was the last nail in the Danish tactician’s coffin.
“Teams are usually very dangerous when it is the coach’s first time in charge,” Micho told the media after Tuesday’s training session.
“Because the coach and players always want to prove their worth and tactically, that makes them a strong team.”
“Janza is my personal friend and he was the assistant coach to Herve Renard when Zambia won the African Cup of Nations in 2012.”
“He was the head coach of Zambia and he helped the team to qualify for the AFCON in 2015 and you can see how experienced he is.”
“I know he will try to establish authority on the team immediately and this will be an epic factor but we shall do anything to qualify.” the Serbian added.
Youngster Travis Mutyaba‘s goal scored in the latter stages of the first leg in Tanzania is the difference between the two regional rivals.
Uganda is looking forward to qualifying for the sixth consecutive time while Tanzania is hunting for a third appearance at the CHAN finals.
The victor on aggregate after Saturday’s meeting will qualify for the 2023 CHAN tournament due to take place in January in Algeria.
