Police FC coach Simon Peter Mugerwa believes a lapse in defence cost them two points as the Kops settled for a 1-1 draw against Kigezi Homeboyz away in Kabale in the FUFA Big League.

“We had a lead but we didn’t take the advantage. We defended the set piece poorly to concede that goal. We take a point away from home against a side that is tricky and have not lost at home,” noted Mugerwa.

The result saw Police remain top of the standings with 27 points, three above second placed Lugazi FC who were not in action. Kigezi is ninth with 15 points.

Former Vipers player Duncan Sseninde had given Police the lead in the 47th minute off a Denis Kalanzi assist before Joseph Seremba levelled matters for Kigezi shorthly after in the 55th.

Mugerwa feels they need to win their last two games of the first round to finish on high note.

“We have two games to end the first round and we are going back to regroup to see how we shall handle them but our target is to win those games.”

“We are going to make corrections on the goal we conceded and also the display was not the best in the first half but in the second half we were better,” he added.

He also admitted that dropping two points against Kigezi piled pressure on his side.

“The pressure is there but considering other results our objective is to see that we qualify for the Uganda Premier League.”

“There is distance of six points between us and number four. It gives us some breathing space but we need to win the championship at last,” he reasoned.

The betPawa Big League will resume on Friday as Lugazi FC make a trip to Ibanda to face 10th placed Kaaro Karungi.
