Richard Kasujja of Lukanga BC emerged victorious in a thrilling welterweight fight against Edward Mukwaya of Kiwatule BC at Club Obligato. The fight was the climax of week 8 of the Uganda Boxing Champions League on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Kasujja, the blue corner fighter, dominated the match from the start. He controlled the pace, forcing Mukwaya to be counted twice in the second and third rounds. Despite Mukwaya’s attempts to mount a comeback in the fourth and fifth rounds, Kasujja remained in control of the contest.
The unanimous decision by all the five judges in favor of Kasujja was met with cheers from the crowd. In the lead-up to the main event, Julius Kaddu of Katabi BC narrowly defeated Brian Ssekyejwe of Kololo BC 4-3 in a closely contested 60kg fight, in the Elite category.
Other fights from Week 8 of the Boxing Campions League
Before the last two bouts, Ibrahim Kemis of Mutajazi BC defeated Ashraf Yiga of Namungoona BC by unanimous decision. Idris Mukiibi of Kololo BC defeated Adam Nsereko Jamidali of UPDF BC 4-1 in the light heavyweight category, while Alfred Ojok of Brawn BC beat Katabi BC’s John Ssemugayire by 5-0.
Mahad Mutwalib of Kololo also unanimously defeated Thomas Kokooza of Zebra BC, Aziz Ssenyange of Sparks BC was victorious over Jonah Ssekamate from Kalinabiri BC by 5-0.
Ashiraf Ssemambo (Brawn) after review was a 4-3 winner over Ashraf Mutesasira, while Simon Mugerwa of Lukanga defeated Zebra’s Abel Mukisa 5-0.
Garvin Kasigi after review won his fight against Charles Ayebale, while Jimmy Kyalugaba of Cobap BC overcame Geoffrey Katumba.
In female category, Roy Kisakye triumphed 4-3 over Latifah Gift after a revised judgement, Namirimu Pauline stopped Gillian Nahwera in the first round, while Angel Katushabe stopped Christine Nabbanja.
The Uganda boxing champions league is set to resume in two weeks, with national novices taking centre stage in the interim.
