The 6th matchday of the Startimes Uganda Premier League will feature an intriguing matchup between the seasoned Express FC and the league newcomers, Lugazi FC.
This encounter pits the oldest club in Ugandan football against the league’s newest entrants, and will kickoff at 7:00 PM at the Hamz Stadium, in Nakivubo.
At home, Express FC has so far played 3 games defeating NEC FC and Mbale Heroes with same 2-1 scoreline, while the other game ended in a goalless draw against Maroons.
Overall the Red Eagles have so far played 5 games tallying 8 points with the only loss coming on the road, in a 3-0 defeat to Vipers SC, in Kitende.
In their last game, Express FC played out to a 2-2 all draw against Police FC at Kavumba Recreation Centre, with forward Sam Ssenyonjo netting his third and fourth goals of the campaign to guide them to 5th position on the log.
Lugazi FC’s Struggles:
Lugazi FC has struggled to find their footing in the top flight and are currently bottom of the log. They are yet to win a game and have only managed two draws, both at home in Najjembe after an opening day 3-0 defeat against visiting Kitara.
On the road, they have lost both games, falling to UPDF and Maroons with the same 1-0 score. These dismal results led to the sacking of head coach Sadiq Ssempiji last week, with Oliver Mbekeka coming in on the interim.
Mbekeka is set to make a new record as her first game against Express will be first time a female coach take charges of a match in Uganda’s elite league.
Team News:
Express FC coach Abubaker Mbowa will be without midfielder John Assimwe due to UACE commitments. Other players are availabe for selection.
Lugazi FC will miss the services of winger Ambrose Awio and defender Rogers Atube due to injuries while defender Muhammed Lubega Gift remains suspended following a red card he received in the defeat to Maroons.
