  • Jinja SSS 194/1 in 20 overs: (Mary Namiiro 66, Acheng Elizabeth 59)
  • Nyakasura School 27 allout in 10.2 overs: (Aliganyira Kebirungi 7, Lonah Tumuhairwe 5)
  • Jinja SSS won by 167 runs

Jinja Senior Secondary School delivered a commanding all-round performance to outclass Nyakasura School by a staggering 167 runs in a one-sided girls’ schools cricket encounter on Thursday to keep spot up top.

Opting to bat first, Jinja SSS piled up an imposing 194 for 1 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to dazzling half-centuries from Mary Namiiro and Acheng Elizabeth.

The opening pair of Elizabeth (59) and Tikabula Rashidah (34) laid the foundation with an 89-run partnership before Namiiro took charge with an explosive unbeaten 66 off just 39 balls, smashing 12 boundaries at a breathtaking strike rate of 169.23.

Extras played a significant role too, contributing a generous 35 runs to the total, as Nyakasura’s bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 23 wides and six no-balls.

Despite a spirited effort by Kasemiire Erron, who claimed the sole wicket, the rest of the attack faltered with Linda Cinderella particularly expensive, leaking 50 runs in just three overs.

In reply, Nyakasura crumbled under pressure and were bundled out for a paltry 27 in just 10.2 overs.

The Jinja bowling unit was ruthless and clinical, led by Sheila Namagoba’s fiery spell of 3 for 6 in three overs. She was ably supported by Moureen Abbo (2/3) and Mariam Biribawa (1/6), as wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

Only Aliganyira Kebirungi (7) showed any resistance with the bat but the rest of the lineup had no answers to Jinja’s relentless attack.

Nyakasura’s innings never got going, losing their first two wickets inside three overs. From there, it was a steady procession back to the pavilion with no partnership crossing double digits.

The innings ended with four batters dismissed for ducks and one retired hurt, reflecting the dominance of Jinja’s bowling.

In another Group A encounter, Iganga Secondary School triumphed over Mt Rwenzori by 2 Wickets. However with two semifinal spots still hanging on the line, Jinja SSS will want to seal their Semifinal spot with a win just like Masaka SS who have Ndejje in their way.

For Group B, Olila High stormed the semifinals, therefore one spot is left, Sacred Heart who won their match against Mt. St. Henry’s High School Mukono by 9 Wickets will hope to win and qualify.
