Matchday five of the 2026 Sky View Boys Schools Cricket Week saw four teams secure their places in the semifinals of both the Super Eight and Placement games, including Jinja SS, who outmuscled their archrivals Busoga College Mwiri.
Cricket faithful were treated to a thrilling encounter as five-time champions Jinja SS beat rivals Busoga College Mwiri by 4 wickets on Thursday in both sides’ second Super Eight A game.
After losing the toss, Mwiri, who are the record winners of this competition with 20 trophies as well as the defending champions, were tasked with batting first.
They posted a decent score of 140/5, with skipper Ryan Agaba (54 off 52) and Abubakar Tigatola (40 off 26) anchoring the innings. However, Habib Mugalula’s boys were equal to the task in their chase.
Through Faizo Michu (36 off 31), Geoffrey Ogola (30 not out off 31), and Kenneth Isiko (24 off 14), Jinja SS chased down the target with an over to spare. The result secured their second Super Eight win and a place in the semis. Their victory against St. John’s SS in the afternoon confirmed them as Super Eight A winners.
Mwiri opened the Super Eight stage with a victory, but they are now in a must-win situation. They have to beat debutants Lango College on Friday if they are to keep their title defense alive.
Elsewhere, Ntare School had their bowling attack to thank for a victory following a disappointing batting display. The Mbarara side won the toss and chose to bat, but managed only 56 runs before being bowled out in 16.4 overs.
Only Brian Aryatunga managed double figures with 11 off 22 balls. Their bowling attack came to the rescue, however, with every bowler picking up wickets. Innocent Ahabwe claimed three, Elton Musiime and Moses Ahabwe each took two, and Dareen Ampaire chipped in with one. It was a hard-fought win that qualified them for the semifinals.
Shree Uganda joined Ntare in the semifinals after a convincing 22-run win against Masaka SS. Shree bowled out Masaka (who were chasing 146) in 19.4 overs to claim their second Super Eight win and a spot in the last four. Shubh Nayee took three wickets to help his side defend their total.
Having both advanced, Shree and Ntare will face off tomorrow in their final Super Eight B game to decide the group winner. The group winner will face either Mwiri or St. John’s, while the runners-up will take on Super Eight A winners Jinja SS.
Masaka SS and Soroti SS remain winless in the group and will miss out on the semifinals. The two will meet tomorrow in their final group fixture.
Hosts Nyakasura moved into the last four of the Placement games thanks to a 17-run win against Shree International. It was their second Placement D victory of the day, having beaten Ndejje SS in the morning. Nyakasura progress to the Placement semifinals as Group D winners and will face the Placement A winners. Shree International remain winless in Fort Portal.
Yahaya Makomeri and Christian Mulindwa each took four wickets for Uganda Martyrs, but they were unable to escape Gulu’s wrath. The northern side beat the debutants by 65 runs to wide open Placement B.
Uganda Martyrs had beaten Kasese in the morning, but this loss leaves them level on points with Gulu. The group winner, who will face the Placement C winner, will be decided tomorrow when Gulu take on Kasese.
Group Placement A was also blown wide open after St. Cornelius defeated Rwenzori HS. St. Cornelius lost to St. James yesterday, but their hopes of advancing to the Placement semifinals remain alive as St. James and Rwenzori still have to play each other.
The final round of Super Eight and Placement group games will be played tomorrow morning, followed by the semifinals in the afternoon.
