Uganda Cranes won the last game of the campaign 1-0 over Congo Brazzaville in Congo at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat.
Travis Mutyaba was the man with the goal that sealed the campaign in a game played on Tuesday 19 November 2024.
Uganda went into the game as already qualified for the AFCON in Morocco next and some changes were called by the technical team as striker Calvin Kabuye made his debut.
The game didn’t see only a debutant but also witnessed Isaac Muleme making the first start for the national team in this campaign.
Uganda Cranes pick-ups from the qualifying campaign
Beating Congo Brazzaville 1-0 on the road saw Uganda Cranes concluding a successful campaign by returning to AFCON after two misses on recent editions.
Ending the 2025 qualifiers with 4 wins a draw and a loss to South Africa saw Uganda finish second on 13 points just one behind South Africa.
During the process, Uganda has been a better side on the road picking 7 points starting with that from South Africa in a 2-2 campaign opener.
From there, Uganda went on to win twice at home 2-0 (over Congo Brazzaville) and 1-0 (over South Sudan) before picking the most important maximum points in Juba with a 2-0 win.
Uganda then returned to action already in celebrations after South Sudan had beaten Congo Brazzaville a day before losing 2-0 to South Africa.
Throughout the campaign goalkeeper Isma Watenga was involved in the maximum minutes of the 6 games, handing a picking baseline to Paul Put.
Kitara FC forward Denis Omedi scored twice the most for Cranes with his partner Jude Ssemugabi adding one making Kitara FC the team with the most goals for Uganda in the campaign.
In total, Uganda scored 8 times and conceded 5 times with South Africa netting 4 while Congo Brazzaville stayed goalless against Uganda.
The other players with a goal are Rogers Mato, Bevis Mugabi, Abdul Aziz Kayondo and Travis Mutyaba while Allan Okello has been the most creative player throughout the campaign for Uganda.
Generally, Uganda has had a good campaign with sights of improving on their game despite becoming a joke against South Africa at Namboole to lose 2-0.
Over 20 players have appeared on the matchday squad through the entire campaign giving consistance to the team while some few like Elvis Bwomono and Ellio Caprodosi get dropped along the journey.
Some players like Shafick Nana Kwikiriza got their first invitation for Cranes duties and received debuts as well while the likes of Derick Nsibambi, Geoffrey Wasswa and Todeo Lwanga got recalled.
Throughout the campaign, fans have been fantastic with the most getting back to Namboole for the first time since 2019 with others coming for the first time as most former national team players like Denis Onyango and others appearing on fan’s coats.
