  • Ngabi Nsamba (4) 1-1 (5) Nyonyi Nakinsige
  • Ndiga 0-1 Nkima

The round of 16 of Bika Byabaganda Football turned into a nightmare for last season’s top performers, as both the winner and the finalist were dismissed in their first appearance in the 2026 edition.

Both shocking games took place at Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium on Sunday, May 24. At first, playing at 2:00pm, Ndiga brought the bigger number in the crowd but was pulled out of the 2026 journey by Nkima who accomplished the mission with Arafat Ssentongo’s lone goal in the second half to win 1-0.

Ndiga started brighter though their game remained less impactful as they created few chances, despite possessing more in the game. Nkima proved much impactful by reaching into Ndiga’s penalty area nine times.

In the end, the last season’s finalist who lacked several players due to league engagement got stopped at the stage where they started on their campaign having been among the top eight teams of the 2025 edition to start at the round of 16 with teams that won the eight groups earlier.

Earlier than 4:00pm, the underdogs arrived first for the warm-up, on the Kitebi end in yellow and red jerseys. Ngabi Nsamba followed in white and blue with the stands having a slightly higher number than the first game.

Five minutes to Kickoff, teams walked to the dressing rooms and marked the kickoff at the exact time. From the beginning, the defending champions started with a usual edge with Steven Yiga winning a free kick in the dangerous zone of the right flank though it yielded nothing.

They continued the grind with Ronald Yiga, Bruno Bunyaga, Deus Bukenya, and the man Steven Yiga all making impressive efforts, meanwhile, on the other side Nakinsige remained much more comfortable with Hassan Kalegga, Said Kyeyune, and Hassan Ssenyonjo are keeping the right control.

Despite this, Ngabi Nyunga capitalized on a calamitous day for Abdul Razak Ssembuusi, who nodded the ball into his own net. However, Nakinsige reacted immediately and Captain Mikdad Ssenyonga equalized before halftime.

Later in the second half, the technical aspect took control of the game, relying on the intelligence of Hassan Kalegga and the resurgence of Muhammad Kyeyune, who started poorly. Nakinsige created multiple chances, more than three but they ended in wasteful hands.

As the game reshaped, the initial underdogs took control. Ngabi Nyunga refused to go down easily, with Steven Yiga taking on responsibilities, but his efforts continued to be helpless.

Viany Ssekajuko, the captain who played on the left flank, continued to look rusty, missing a tap-in that was easily collected by goalkeeper Bashir Ssenyonga. In the dying minutes, Steven Yiga’s ground cross was missed by a forest of legs, including Ssekajugo’s.

After a 1-1 normal play, Nakinsige won 5-4 with Said Kyeyune, Mikdad Ssenyonga, Samson Kyambadde, Muhammad Kyeyune, and Ivan Nyombi converting, while Hassan Ssenyonjo missed.

On the other side, Deus Bukenya’s effort was pushed by Goalkeeper Ismail Zziwa beyond the right side post, and Steven Yiga struck against the post in the same direction as Deus Bukenya. Zziwa came on in the dying minutes of the game to replace Bashir Ssenyonga.

Now the teams, which are improving under Eric Kisuze’s guidance, will continue their shining campaign as they take on Ngo in the Quarterfinal at the end of this week. Ngo eliminated Ffumbe with a 4-2 normal play win.
