Towering midfielder Ivan Sserubiri scored against his former paymasters URA FC as his current side SC Villa salvaged a 1-1 draw in a Uganda Premier League match played at the Nakisunga Saza Grounds on Saturday.

Sserubiri left the Tax Collectors at the start of the season to join the Jogoo, and his 71st minute penalty proved the difference for the latter as they rounded off the first round of the league with a point.

His goal came after the hosts had broken the deadlock way earlier in the 34th minute, through Ibrahim Dada‘s superbly struck freekick.

Dada could have had another one on the evening but his 25th minute acrobatic strike was brilliantly denied by Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.

Meanwhile, the latter were also denied a chance to add to their evening’s tally, as Pistis Barenge’s long-range effort struck the frame.

At the death, URA nearly grabbed the headlines, but Vianne Sdekajugo’s goal-bound effort off a Living Kabon cut-back was blocked by the on-rushing Fred Gift.

Villa now occupy fifth on the 15-team log with 24 points and will not be back in action in the league, till February 2023.

Meanwhile, URA who are 11th with 14 points, will hope to make amends on December 20th when they visit Gaddafi FC.
